I photograph while traveling and would like trustworthy resources on photographers’ rights outside my home country. I’m familiar with general guidance for the U.S., but I’m looking for country-specific information that can help photographers understand what is generally allowed in public and how to respond if questioned by security or law enforcement. What reputable resources are available?

For UK, some info can be found at website of I'm a Photographer, not a Terrorist group, including a "bust card" which sums up your rights under British Terrorism Act.

Other than that, I can only comment on the situation in the Czech Republic, which seems to be pretty relaxed and free of any silly restrictions.

A good approach is to use country-specific rights guides rather than assuming rules are the same everywhere.

From the community suggestions:

  • United States: Bert P. Krages’ Photographer’s Bill of Rights is a widely recommended summary for U.S. photographers, and many people carry a printed copy.
  • United Kingdom: The I’m a Photographer, Not a Terrorist group has useful information, including a “bust card” summarizing photographers’ rights in relation to UK anti-terror laws.
  • Czech Republic: One answer notes the situation there is generally relaxed, though no specific legal resource was provided.

In general, the safest resource is an official or locally maintained legal guide for the specific country you’re visiting. Laws on public photography, private property, police powers, and publication/privacy can vary a lot, so check local rules before shooting.
