I use a Nikon camera and received two lenses: a Tamron 16-300mm f/3.5-6.3 and an AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.8G. Do I need both, and how will they differ in real-world shooting? I'm trying to understand when I would use the superzoom versus the 50mm prime.

They are very different lenses and will go nicely together in the same camera kit.
