I already have an inexpensive telescope and want to try digiscoping without spending much. For a first setup, what features should I prioritize in a used camera if my budget is around $100 or less?

For a very low-budget first digiscoping setup, look for an older used DSLR body. A camera like the Canon 350D can be found very cheaply and is a reasonable starting point, but a slightly newer model is preferable if possible because live view is very helpful for manual focusing.

The key thing to prioritize is manual-focus usability, especially live view, since digiscoping often involves careful focusing through a telescope. Image quality matters, but at this budget the main goal is getting something workable and easy enough to focus.

So, for under $100, aim for:

  • a used DSLR body
  • live view if possible
  • good manual focusing usability
  • low cost over advanced features

An older Canon DSLR body is a practical place to start if you’re shopping used.

Yes there is. If you look at ebay there are for example canon 350d bodies availible from around $40. That is an resonable camera to start out with. A slightly newer model might be a bit better thou as the 350d lacks live view which helps manual focusing.
