I want to print my own photo postcards at home. Regular photo paper gives good image quality, but it feels too flimsy for mailing as a postcard.
I’m looking for a paper or card stock that:
- works well for photo printing
- is sturdy enough for mailing as a postcard
- can be used in an inkjet printer
- is reasonably affordable
Is there a specific type of postcard paper or heavy photo paper that works well for this?

I would look at getting them printed at a short-run print/copy specialist such as Prontaprint or Mail Boxes Etc. The print quality will be superior, the card will be just like a commercial postcard, and the cost won't be a great deal more than having to buy in the card and ink yourself.

Yes. For home inkjet printing, look for postcard-specific inkjet paper or heavy photo paper/card stock made for mailing. Community recommendations included Red River Paper’s postcard products, which are designed for inkjet printing and made to meet postal postcard requirements in the US.
If you want to assemble your own solution, a heavier luster photo paper can work better than typical flimsy photo paper. One suggestion was MOAB Lasal Photo Luster: glossy on the print side, matte on the back, and heavier than many standard photo papers. It can produce nice-looking cards, though it may still be less rigid than a commercial postcard.
If you want the most durable, professional postcard feel, a short-run print shop may be the better option. Several answers noted that a local print/copy specialist can often produce postcard-quality prints on proper card stock with excellent image quality, sometimes for not much more than buying specialty paper and ink yourself.
