I’m trying to confirm whether a Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS lens will fit in my camera bag with the ET-87 hood mounted in the reversed storage position. Canon lists the lens body at about 89mm in diameter, but I need the widest outside diameter including the hood.

Using the pictures in an Amazon entry for a rip-off, if the filter diameter is 77mm then the external diameter of the hood is around 115mm.

The ET-87 hood appears to be about 112mm (4 3/8 in) at its widest point. One community measurement from an ET-87 supplied with the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II gives 112mm, and another estimate based on product images puts it around 115mm. So for bag-fit purposes, assume roughly 112–115mm external diameter with the hood attached/reversed. Since the ET-87 used on these 70-200mm f/2.8L IS versions is effectively the same hood style, that should be a practical planning figure.
