I use a Pentax K-5 and noticed a newer D-LI90(E) battery listed alongside the original D-LI90. The published specs appear the same at 1860mAh and 7.2V. Aside from the model suffix, is there any practical difference between these batteries?

The E suffix usually signifies compliance with European standards on Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS). They simply have fewer elements which Europe does not like.

The “E” suffix most likely indicates a version made to comply with European RoHS-style environmental regulations. In practice, that usually means changes to the battery’s materials or restricted substances rather than a change in capacity, voltage, or camera compatibility. Based on the listed specs, there’s no clear indication of a performance difference.
