I’m trying to find the proper name for an illuminated surface used to view slides, negatives, and other film transparencies. Searching for terms like “light table,” “light panel,” and “light box” often brings up unrelated items such as lamps, lightweight tables, advertising displays, or web/UI “lightbox” results. What are the common English terms for this item, and is there a common German term as well?

They are called "light boxes", like for example this one from Hama. In german it's "leuchtpult": same page on the german site

Generated from our catalog & community — verify before relying on it.
The most common English terms are light box and light table. For photography, either can refer to an illuminated viewing surface for slides, negatives, and transparencies.
A related term you may also see is light pad or light tracer, especially for slimmer portable versions. Some results may be aimed at animation or tracing use, but they’re often very similar in function.
In German, the term given in the community answers is Leuchtpult. You may also see Leuchttisch used in similar contexts.
If your searches return unrelated products, try combining the term with film-specific words such as slides, negatives, or transparencies.
