I’d like to do more HDR photography on macOS. I already have Photoshop CS5, but I haven’t been happy with its speed or the look of the final images. I’ve heard good things about Photomatix and would like to know what other HDR software people recommend for Mac. Lightroom is my main editor, so good integration with Lightroom or other Adobe apps would be a plus.

Luminance HDR is available for Mac as well as for other platforms. It is free and open source. The definition of "better" and "quality" may vary, but it doesn't cost money to try.

Several Mac HDR options were mentioned:
- Photomatix Pro: A long-time popular choice. Users described it as capable and faster in newer versions, but somewhat “geeky” and less user-friendly.
- Nik HDR Efex: Noted for good Lightroom integration and a friendlier workflow than older Photomatix versions, though one user found it a bit laggy on Mac.
- Photoshop CS5 HDR: One answer preferred the built-in Adobe option for its precision, professional controls, preset reuse, and tight Adobe workflow integration.
- Hydra: Mentioned as another Mac option, with good Aperture integration.
- Luminance HDR: A free, open-source alternative for Mac, worth trying if you want a no-cost option.
If Lightroom integration matters most, HDR Efex sounds like a strong candidate from these answers. If you want a widely used dedicated HDR tool, Photomatix Pro is a common pick. Since image “quality” is subjective in HDR, the best approach is to try demos and compare speed, usability, and results with your own files.
