I'm new to using a graphics tablet and want one that's compatible with a Windows PC for editing in Lightroom 5, and possibly some Photoshop work. I'm looking for a beginner-friendly option that can handle common photo-editing tasks without needing a high-end tablet. Any recommendations?

Wacom tablets seem to be standard. I got a CTH-480 for under $100 and it has proven capable of handling all tasks I've attempted in Lightroom and Photoshop, including following tutorials led by guys with the highest-end digitizer tablets.

A Wacom tablet is a safe beginner choice. Based on the community feedback, even an entry-level Wacom such as the CTH-480 is capable of handling typical Lightroom and Photoshop editing tasks well. For photo editing, you generally don’t need a top-end digitizer tablet to get good control for brushing, masking, and other adjustments. If you’re just starting out, focus on a basic, PC-compatible pen tablet from a reputable brand rather than an expensive display tablet.
