I'm looking for free software to improve blurry terrestrial photos by using deconvolution to reduce motion blur. Windows compatibility is preferred, and portable software would be a bonus. The files are fairly large, around 12 megapixels. I've already tried Unshake 1.5, but it seemed to oversharpen the image and also crashed on larger files. What other free tools are worth trying?

In case this is useful to anyone else, I found that Image Analyzer 1.33 from MeeSoft is a freeware claiming to do "Deconvolution for out-of-focus and motion blur compensation".

A few free options mentioned are worth trying:
- SmartDeblur 2.0: specifically designed for blurred images and offers blind deconvolution plus manual modes for motion blur, out-of-focus blur, and gaussian blur. According to the shared experience, it can be slow during automatic analysis but can give very good results.
- Image Analyzer: freeware that includes tools claiming to handle deconvolution for out-of-focus and motion blur compensation.
- ImageJ: an open-source, cross-platform image-processing tool. It’s more technical, but it’s free and flexible.
A practical note: deconvolution can help only when the blur is moderate and reasonably consistent. Strong blur or complex camera/subject movement often cannot be fully fixed, and aggressive settings may create halos or an oversharpened look. For best results, try small adjustments and compare previews before processing full-size files.
