What do the different noise reduction sliders in Silkypix do?

I'm editing RAW files in Silkypix and I'm confused by the noise reduction controls. The sliders I see are:

  • False Color Control
  • Noise Reduction
  • Noise Canceller - Noise Level
  • Noise Canceller - Noise Cancel

Can someone explain, in simple terms, what each of these does and how they relate to each other when reducing noise?

The False Color Control will remove the color noise, while the Noise Reduction Control will remove the high frequency non-color noise. These are your two main sliders. The other two "cancellers" are essentially to fine tune and dial back the other two main sliders.

In simple terms, Silkypix splits noise reduction into color noise and luminance/detail noise.

  • False Color Control: reduces color noise (random red/green/blue speckles, especially in shadows).
  • Noise Reduction: reduces high-frequency non-color noise, which is basically luminance noise or grain-like texture.
  • Noise Canceller - Noise Level and Noise Canceller - Noise Cancel: these are best thought of as fine-tuning controls for the main noise reduction behavior rather than separate primary tools.

A practical way to use them:

  1. Start with False Color Control if you see colored speckles.
  2. Use Noise Reduction to tame grainy brightness noise.
  3. Adjust the two Noise Canceller sliders to refine the result and avoid over-smoothing.

In most cases, the first two are your main sliders, and the Noise Canceller controls help dial the effect in more precisely. Apply only as much as needed, since too much noise reduction can smear fine detail.
