What diffuser can mix multiple LED panel colors into one even light source?

I want to build a light box that mimics natural light using several white LED panels plus a few colored LED panels. The panels are about 4×10 cm each and glow across the whole surface, so they are not point sources.

My goal is to combine these lights into one evenly mixed output with minimal visible hotspots or separate colors. I was considering a saw-tooth or patterned acrylic/plexiglass sheet in front of the lights, but I’m not sure whether that approach is practical.

Is there a diffuser or optical material specifically designed to mix multiple LED sources into a uniform output? Also, what general type of diffuser should I be looking for for this kind of setup?

After couple hours of research I found that exact thing exists. its called light guide plate and it looks very much the same as my "illustration" and (surprise!) is made almost always of plexiglass.

Yes. The product family you’re describing is generally called a light guide plate (LGP). These are commonly made from acrylic/plexiglass and are designed to take light from one or more sources and spread it into a more even, uniform surface output.

That makes an LGP a more appropriate solution than a simple front diffuser if your main goal is to mix several white and colored LED panels into one blended light source with fewer hotspots.

In practice, a diffuser alone softens light, but a light guide plate is specifically intended to distribute and mix it more evenly across an area. If you’re building a light box from scratch, looking for acrylic light guide plate materials or edge-/back-lit panel components is the right direction.
