I’m looking for an older, inexpensive point-and-shoot camera for a very long timelapse project lasting months. My ideal requirements are:
- 28mm-equivalent wide-angle lens
- external power option / AC adapter support
- camera control from a computer over USB
- at least 2MP resolution
- older or lower-cost model is fine
I don’t need high megapixel counts, but I do need something practical for extended unattended shooting. Are there any compact cameras that fit these requirements well?

So,
after digging around all day I found my camera :
Canon S70.
It is the only camera that comes close to the requirement list.
It is around 100$ on ebay.
It does not have a power socket, but there is this :

On a side note, one of the reason I always preferred Canon was their
free software SDK for camera control. Sadly, they have discontinued this
feature after the G10 came out in 2008.

Based on the community answers, the closest match is the Canon PowerShot S70. It offers a 28mm-equivalent wide lens and was noted as working with Canon’s USB camera-control software/SDK on older models. While it does not have a built-in power socket on the camera body, an external AC adapter solution is available, which makes it more suitable for long timelapse use.
For this specific need, older Canon compacts are a sensible place to look because Canon historically offered good computer control support. One answer also notes that Canon discontinued this SDK support on later models after the G10 era, so older models are more likely to fit your workflow.
A webcam or an interchangeable-lens DSLR setup was suggested too, but those are less aligned with your stated goal of a cheap point-and-shoot with a wide lens.
So if you want the best fit from the answers provided: Canon PowerShot S70.
