I’m looking for good learning resources specifically for food photography, ideally books but also worthwhile digital resources if they’re especially strong. What would you recommend for someone wanting practical guidance on shooting food well?

The book I would recommend: Plate to Pixel.

Everything you need right there and it was written by a friend of mine. It is by far the most complete and most comprehensive "how-to" book out there. Better than any blog (my own included).

A strong book recommendation from the community is Plate to Pixel, which was described as a very complete, comprehensive how-to resource for food photography.

For digital learning, two suggestions stood out:

  • Kelly Cline’s blog for ongoing food-photography insight
  • Penny De Los Santos’ CreativeLive workshop for a more hands-on look at professional workflow, including collaboration with food and prop stylists

If you want a single starting point, a dedicated book like Plate to Pixel is a solid foundation because food photography depends on several skills working together: lighting, styling, composition, color, and storytelling. Blogs and workshops can then help you see current techniques and real-world process in action.

A practical approach would be: start with one comprehensive book, then supplement it with blog posts or workshop videos to see how professionals apply those ideas on set.
