Should a Sigma 150-500mm lens mount tightly on a Nikon D5100?

I just received a Sigma 150-500mm for Nikon and it feels much tighter to mount on my Nikon D5100 than my other Nikon lenses, such as the 35mm f/1.8. I have confirmed it is the correct Nikon mount, but I need to use much more force than expected to attach it. Is this normal for this lens, or could there be a problem with the lens mount? I’m concerned about possible damage to the camera or lens if I keep mounting it this way.

No it should not be tight to the point you feel like you are forcing it. I had a 150-500 on my D90 and it mounted easily, same as all my other lenses. You might want to check for a loose screw or bent flange at the base of the lens. Do you see any scratch marks on the body where something may be rubbing/scraping against the mount?
