Purple spots appearing in the same place in every photo — is my sensor damaged?

I’m seeing purple spots/lines in the same location and shape in every image I took today. They show up consistently from shot to shot. Does this indicate sensor damage, and what can cause it?

It looks like green sensels have gone dark. Lasers can cause damage like this.

If the marks appear in exactly the same place and shape in every photo, that strongly suggests a sensor issue rather than something in the scene. Purple/magenta artifacts can happen when some green-sensitive pixels stop responding, which can leave a magenta cast in those areas.

One possible cause is laser exposure: strong laser light can permanently damage camera sensors. If you photographed near a laser show, stage lighting, or any direct laser source, that is a plausible explanation.

To confirm it’s not dust or a lens issue, take a few test shots of an evenly lit plain surface with different lenses. If the marks remain identical in the same spot, the problem is in the sensor/imaging path. Dust usually looks like soft dark spots, not bright purple lines or patches.

Unfortunately, true laser/sensor damage is usually permanent and requires professional service, often involving sensor replacement.
