Panasonic GF2 battery drains while the camera is off — is that normal?

My Panasonic DMC-GF2 has always had poor battery life. Even with a new, fully charged battery, the camera can drain it within about 48 hours while switched off and not being used. Friends with the same model don’t have this problem. Is there any normal setting or behavior that could cause this, or does it suggest a fault with the camera body?

I have own this camera for 2 years and I don't have battery problem you mentioned. The camera preserve its battery power well even I forgot to switch it off, the camera goes into sleep mode after a while. Although Panasonic has released a newer firmware but the firmware update isn't relate to battery power. So I guess your unit should have some problem and should return it before the warranty expire.

No, that doesn’t sound normal. Based on the replies, other GF2 owners do not see that kind of drain, and most cameras should retain charge well when switched off or in sleep mode. Since you’ve already tried a new battery and the problem remains, the most likely cause is an issue with the camera body rather than user error.

Removing the battery during long periods of non-use may reduce drain, but losing a full charge in about 48 hours while off is still excessive. If the battery also fails to last through a normal day of shooting, that further points to a fault.

The practical next step is to contact Panasonic support or have the camera checked for a hardware problem.
