Nikon N75 mirror stuck halfway and camera won't operate

I received a Nikon N75 film camera, but the mirror is stuck halfway up. I’ve already tried fresh batteries and swapping lenses, but the camera still won’t operate normally and I can’t change shutter speed settings. I’m too far from a repair shop and don’t want to spend a lot on service for this body. Is there any practical fix, or is replacement the better option?

The camera is broken and there is no simple fix. A professional repair will cost much more than the approximate $50 cost of a working N75 camera body.

I would advise you to buy a replacement body and use the same lens, or buy one that comes with a different lens, so you can changes lenses for different shooting situations.

A mirror stuck halfway on an N75, combined with the camera not operating normally, usually indicates a mechanical or electronic failure rather than a simple user-fix issue. Based on the available advice, there isn’t a straightforward home remedy for this problem.

In most cases, professional repair would cost more than the value of a working Nikon N75 body, so repair is usually not economical. The practical solution is to replace the camera body and keep using your existing compatible lens, or buy another body/lens combination if that makes more sense for you.

So: this is most likely a broken body, not a settings or battery issue, and replacement is the recommended route.
