Nikon D610 lens got stuck, and now other lenses are black or erroring

A 70-200mm lens became stuck on my Nikon D610 and had to be gently wiggled off. Since then, that lens still works but sometimes triggers an error that clears after powering the camera off and on, especially after changing settings. Other lenses now do not work properly—for example, with my 50mm attached the view is completely dark, as if no light is getting through. What likely happened, and is this something that needs repair on the camera body, the lens, or both?

Sounds like the electronic contacts have been damaged and the camera will need to be serviced. Time to get a backup camera if you don't have one already.

The most likely cause is physical damage to the Nikon F-mount linkage or electronic contacts when the stuck lens was removed. Based on the symptoms, a likely specific issue is a bent aperture linkage lever in the camera body. If that lever is bent, some lenses may stay stopped down, which would make the view through the 50mm very dark or black. The intermittent errors with the 70-200mm also suggest possible contact or mount damage.

This is not likely a settings issue. The camera body should be inspected and serviced, and the 70-200mm may also need checking. The good news is that this is a fairly common repair for shops familiar with Nikon F-mount gear.

Until it is repaired, avoid forcing lenses on or off, as that could make the damage worse. If you have paid work coming up, use a backup body if possible.
