I’m trying to find out whether the Canon EOS 450D (Rebel XSi) supports any custom firmware projects. I’ve seen CHDK on some older Canon models and Magic Lantern on some newer ones, but I couldn’t find anything specific for the 450D. Does this camera support custom firmware, or are users generally limited to Canon’s stock firmware?

As far as I'm aware it doesn't, CHDK only runs on the 400D and lower (due to the firmware chipset it ran it was fairly hackable), and Magic Lantern starts on 500D and goes up from there.

Community consensus is that the Canon EOS 450D / Rebel XSi does not have a widely used custom firmware option. CHDK is generally associated with the 400D and older models, while Magic Lantern support starts with the 500D and newer. So for the 450D, you’re effectively limited to Canon’s standard firmware updates rather than third-party firmware projects.
