Is there an iPhone location-scouting app that can read GPS EXIF from photos in my library?

I’m looking for an iPhone/iOS app to help scout and save photography locations. A key requirement is that it must read the GPS EXIF data from photos already in my Photos library/Camera Roll, so I can create location entries from existing images. Many apps I’ve found only record my current position, or if I import an older photo they incorrectly use my present location instead of the photo’s embedded GPS data. Are there any apps that handle this properly?

MapAPic Location Scout is good for remembering locations. After you add some locations, you can tag them, search, get directions, share/print as PDFs, and more.

UPDATE: As of June 2013, MapAPic can read geo-location exif data from images, and create new locations using that data!

Yes. Based on the community replies, MapAPic Location Scout is the app that specifically matches your requirement: it can read geo-location EXIF data from images and create location entries from that metadata. It also offers useful scouting features like tagging, searching, directions, and sharing/printing PDFs.

Other apps mentioned may still be helpful depending on your workflow:

  • Scout for iOS was recommended as a strong option for keeping a journal of locations.
  • Stuck on Earth was suggested more for virtual scouting, using geotagged Flickr images on a map to discover interesting spots.

So if your main need is importing existing photos and using their embedded GPS coordinates correctly, MapAPic Location Scout is the best match from the answers provided.
