Is there a quick-release camera attachment system that works with different strap types?

I carry a fairly heavy Nikon D850 and would like a more flexible way to switch between different carrying styles. I prefer a shoulder strap, while my partner prefers a belt/holster style when we travel and share the camera. Is there a quick-release attachment system that can work across multiple strap types, so the same camera can be moved easily between them?

One company that has been around for a long time and specialises in camera straps is OP/TECH USA. I'm not affiliated with them, but I have been a satisfied customer of theirs for multiple products. They have many different styles, and most can be swapped around to your taste using side-release buckles. They haven't really updated any of their designs in years, so they are not a "cool" new company, but their hardware works.

Product recommendations are off-topic here, because the answers outlive the specific products mentioned, and because what's right for one person is not the right answer for others. Anyway, I guess the take-away is that you just need to look further. There are manufacturers that offer quick release solutions, with some attaching to the tripod socket (e.g. BLACKRAPID) or a tripod plate, and others to the regular strap lugs (e.g. Peak Design). You might be able to rig something together from multiple manufacturers which allows both of you to have different quick-release strap attachments on the camera at the same time.

Yes. Unified quick-release systems do exist, though they’re usually proprietary to a brand’s ecosystem.

From the answers, Peak Design is a clear example: its anchor-based quick-release fittings work across several strap types, and an anchor mount can attach via the tripod socket. That lets you move the same camera between wrist, neck, and shoulder-style straps quickly. They also offer links for adapting existing straps.

OP/TECH USA is another long-standing option, using side-release buckles across many of its strap designs, so parts can be swapped within that system.

For belt/holster setups, compatibility is less universal. One answer notes some cross-compatibility between Carry Speed/Focus and Spider Holster components, but also mentions that not every pin fits every connection perfectly.

So the practical answer is: yes, but usually only within a given brand’s mount system. If you want reliable swapping between shoulder and belt carry, look for one ecosystem that offers both attachment styles rather than expecting full cross-brand compatibility.
