Is the Canon 1100D / Rebel T3 shutter and mirror noise unusually loud?

My Canon 1100D seems louder than other DSLRs I’ve compared it with, and I’m wondering whether that’s normal for this model or if my camera may need service.
What I tested:
- The noise is the same with different lenses.
- It still sounds loud with a manual lens, so it does not seem to be aperture-blade noise.
- In Live View, the noise is noticeably lower.
- With no lens attached, I can see the mirror moving sharply toward the top of the frame, even though the foam cushion is present.
I’ve compared it with several other cameras and mine seems louder. For people who have used the Canon 1100D / Rebel T3: is this typical, or could it indicate a problem with the mirror mechanism?

I do own a 1100D and don't find the mirror noise so loud. In Live View, the mirror is up, so that would explain the lower noise when you take the picture. My advice would be to go to a shop and compare the noise with the 1100D that is on display. IF it is the same, then your ears may just be too sensitive. If it isn't, then head out to the service center and have an authorized repair shop to look at it...
EDIT: Since then, there's been a video (here) going around the web showing all Canon EOS shutter sounds in Burst mode, including the EOS 1100D. It may help you as a reference...

Some shutter/mirror noise is normal on the Canon 1100D, and Live View being quieter also makes sense because the mirror is already raised.
Based on the answers, the best way to tell whether yours is abnormal is to compare it directly with another 1100D / Rebel T3. If a store display model or another owner’s camera sounds the same, your camera is likely behaving normally. If yours is clearly louder than another 1100D, then it would be sensible to have an authorized service center inspect it.
So: quieter in Live View is expected; unusually loud compared with other camera models is not enough by itself to prove a fault. The important comparison is with the same model.
