How weather-resistant are Sigma Art lenses on a Canon 6D?

I use a Canon 6D and currently have a Sigma 50mm EX lens. I’m considering another Sigma Art lens for a trip to Colorado, where I may be shooting in poor weather. I usually keep high-quality clear protective filters on my lenses. How weather- and dust-resistant are Sigma Art lenses, and does using a clear filter improve sealing in wet conditions? Also, is the Sigma 18-35mm Art compatible with a Canon 6D?

There is only one Sigma Art lens with is weatheproof and that is the Sigma A 12-24mm F/4 DG HSM. Many of the Sport series are weatherproof though. A clear filter will not help as there is no sealing on the mount.

The one you are looking for is probably the 24-35mm F/2 DG HSM as it will work on your Canon 6D. The Art 18-35mm you mention only works for cameras with APS-C sensors.

Sigma Art lenses are generally not as weather-sealed as Canon L lenses. Based on the answers provided, only the Sigma 12-24mm f/4 DG HSM Art was specifically noted as weatherproof, while many Sigma Sports lenses have better weather resistance.

A clear protective filter does not make a lens weather-sealed by itself. Even if the front is covered, that does nothing for sealing at the lens mount or other moving parts, so it won’t turn a non-sealed lens into a sealed one.

Also, the Sigma 18-35mm Art is designed for APS-C cameras, so it is not the right match for a full-frame Canon 6D. If you want a Sigma Art zoom for the 6D, the 24-35mm f/2 DG HSM was suggested in the answers as a compatible option.

In short: don’t rely on a clear filter for weather protection, and check each Sigma lens individually for sealing rather than assuming all Art lenses are weather-resistant.
