How do I unprotect and delete photos on a Nikon D90?

A couple of images on my Nikon D90 are marked as protected, so the camera won’t let me delete them. What button or menu option removes protection so I can erase those photos?

While viewing protected images on your Nikon D-90 press White Balance/Key button and this will unprotect them. I had the same problem but don't know how I managed to "protect" them in the first place..lol. :))

Generated from our catalog & community — verify before relying on it.
On the Nikon D90, view the protected photo in playback and press the button with the key icon (the same control mentioned in the answers, also associated with White Balance on the camera body). That toggles the image’s protection off. Once unprotected, you can delete it normally.
If you want to remove everything on the memory card, formatting the card from the camera’s menu will also clear protected images. Be careful: formatting erases all photos on the card, not just the protected ones.
