Did pressing the Nikon FM2 rewind release button ruin my exposed frames?

I accidentally pressed the film rewind release button on the bottom of my Nikon FM2 when I was around frame 15. I did not intentionally rewind the film yet. Will pressing that button alone damage or erase the photos I already took? What should I do next?

The rewind button on manual cameras serves to release the take up spool so that you can use the rewind lever to get the film back into that can. Pushing the button alone doesn’t do anything. Releasing it puts things back how they were.
Side note, on cameras that don’t have multiple exposure support out of the box, you can hold the button down while cranking the film advance lever...this causing the film not to move (because of the release button being held) but the shutter still cocked (allowing you to take a second exposure on the same frame).

No—pressing the Nikon FM2 rewind release button by itself does not ruin or erase your exposures. That button simply disengages the film advance mechanism so the film can be rewound if you use the rewind crank.
If you only pressed the button and did not actually rewind the film, your existing frames should be fine. Just continue shooting normally.
If you did start rewinding the film back into the cassette, the exposed images are still not destroyed, but continuing to use the roll becomes more complicated. You may need a film leader retriever or complete darkness to get the film back out, and then carefully advance past the already exposed frames before shooting again.
So in the usual case: button pressed alone = no problem. Actual rewinding = images still safe, but handling the roll takes extra care.
