How do I make Lightroom treat previously imported RAW and JPEG pairs as a single photo?

I originally imported RAW and JPEG files as separate photos in Lightroom with the preference to treat JPEGs next to RAW files as separate photos enabled. I’ve since changed that setting and want older shoots to appear as combined RAW+JPEG pairs instead of separate entries.
I tried removing the old RAW and JPEG files from the catalog and re-importing them, but Lightroom still isn’t combining them the way I expect. How can I convert previously imported files so Lightroom treats each RAW+JPEG pair as a single photo?

For Adobe Lightroom to combine a single image jpeg and raw files, the names have to be the same. Usually that is the case out of the camera. In my case, I had imported these files awhile ago, and the jpeg and raw file of the same image had different names.
So I simply renamed all of images, jpeg and raw, using YearMonthDayHourMinuteSecond naming scheme. Removed them from the catalog, then reimported them making sure that in the preferences, the option of "Treating JPEG files next to raw files as separate photos" is unchecked. Now I have what I want, a single raw+JPEG file for each image in Lightroom.

Generated from our catalog & community — verify before relying on it.
Lightroom will only pair a RAW and JPEG as one photo if they are side-by-side and have matching base filenames, as they normally do straight out of camera.
To fix older imports:
- Make sure each RAW and JPEG for the same image has the same filename stem.
- In Lightroom preferences, turn off “Treat JPEG files next to raw files as separate photos.”
- Remove the separate RAW and JPEG entries from the catalog.
- Re-import the files.
If your older files were renamed differently, Lightroom won’t recognize them as pairs until the names match. Once they do, and the preference is unchecked, Lightroom should import them as a single RAW+JPEG item.
