How do I attach this tripod mount/holder to a tripod?

I was given a tripod camera holder/accessory and I'm not sure how it connects to a tripod, since many tripods already have a head or camera mount attached. What type of tripod or mounting screw does it need, and what if my tripod's head can't be removed?

It mounts via the 3/8-16 or 1/4-20 screw most tripods have. If the tripod already has a head (camera mount) installed you would need to remove it and install this in its' place.

If the tripod head is not removable, then you could only use this by attaching a camera plate to it. But that would be kind of pointless I think.

This type of holder typically attaches to a tripod using a standard 1/4"-20 or 3/8"-16 tripod screw/thread.

If your tripod has a removable head, you would usually take that head off and mount this holder in its place.

If your tripod’s head is fixed and cannot be removed, you generally can’t mount this accessory directly to the tripod. In that case, the only workaround would be attaching a camera plate to the holder, but that usually defeats the purpose of using the holder in the first place.

So the main thing to check is whether your tripod head is removable and whether it uses a standard 1/4"-20 or 3/8"-16 mount.
