How do I apply edits only to a masked area in darktable?

I'm new to darktable on Linux and can create masks, but any adjustment I make still affects the whole image. How do I use masks for local/selective editing so a module only changes the masked area?

Finally, I could figure out how to use the masks. Unlike other applications where masks is a separate module/feature, Darktable has built masks under every module.
For example, if you want to change brightness/contrast of a certain part of the image:
- Go to brightness/contrast module on the left.
- At the bottom of the module, you would find Blend with Off on right hand side.
Click on Off and select:
- Drawn Masks for to draw masks on the image and restrict effect of the module to that area.
- Parametric masks for selecting part of the image based on various parameters such as color, lightness, etc.
- Drawn+parametric masks which combines both of the above masks.
Here are some links from the Darktable manual that might help:

In darktable, masks are applied within each editing module rather than as a separate global tool. To make an edit affect only part of the image, open the module you want to use (for example, brightness/contrast), then use its blending/masking section at the bottom.
Change the blend option from "off" to one of these:
- drawn mask: manually paint or draw the area
- parametric mask: target areas by lightness, color, or similar image properties
- drawn + parametric: combine both methods
Once a mask is attached to that module, the module’s effect is restricted to the selected area instead of the whole photo.
If your version supports it, the masks manager in the left panel can help you view and manage masks you’ve created. If you’re on an older version, update if possible, since masking is available in newer darktable releases.
