How do I adjust SB-910 remote flash power in Nikon CLS commander mode?

I'm using Nikon CLS with my camera's built-in flash as the commander and an SB-910 set to Remote mode. The flash fires correctly, but on the SB-910 itself I can only seem to change the zoom, not the output level. How do I control the remote flash power when using this setup?

You set the power from the custom menu on your camera (menu item e3 on most models). For each channel you can set exposure compensation to dial the power up/down

In Nikon CLS, a remote SB-910’s output is normally controlled by the commander, not by setting manual power directly on the flash.
Use your camera’s Flash Control / Commander settings (often Custom Menu e3 on many Nikon bodies) to adjust the remote group output. If you’re using TTL, you change the remote flash level with flash exposure compensation for that group.
You can also set flash exposure compensation on the SB-910 itself. On the flash, use the exposure compensation control (the second button from the left). Any compensation set on the camera and on the flash is cumulative. For example, camera +1 and flash -1 cancel each other out.
So in CLS Remote mode, look to the camera’s commander menu for the main control of the off-camera flash output, and use flash exposure compensation if needed for fine adjustment.
