How do I add a white border strip with my name under a photo in Lightroom or Photoshop?

I’d like to place a white strip or border below each image and put my name, logo, or signature in that area. I prefer this look over a standard watermark on top of the photo. Can this be done in Lightroom or Photoshop, and if so, what’s the simplest workflow?

Yes, you can do this in Photoshop. All you need is to expand the canvas (Image > Canvas size) and then add you logo, name or other decoration into this new space.

Please note that this is extremely easy to remove from the image (just by cropping), so it does not really fulfill the same function as watermark.

Yes. In Photoshop, the straightforward method is to enlarge the canvas, then place your name or logo in the new white area. Use Image > Canvas Size to add space below the photo, then add text or a graphic in that strip.

In Lightroom, this can be done through the Print module by creating a template with an Identity Plate containing your name, signature, or logo, then exporting/printing to JPEG. Standard Lightroom watermarking places the watermark inside the image, not in a separate border area.

One important note: a white strip below the image is mostly a presentation choice, not real protection. Unlike a watermark over the photo, it can usually be removed easily by cropping.
