How can I take a self-portrait with a Canon 1D X Mark II and keep myself in focus?

I’m using a Canon 1D X Mark II and want to photograph myself. With the self-timer, the camera focuses when I press the shutter, but after I move in front of the camera it stays focused at the original point. Can this be done using the camera’s built-in settings, or do I need a remote?

You can focus on the place where you will be, then switch to manual focus, start the timer and run. To make it easy you can create some mark on the ground to know where to focus and to know where to stay.

Yes—this can be done without a remote if you pre-focus where you plan to stand. Set up the shot, place an object or marker where you’ll be, focus on that spot, then switch the lens or camera to manual focus so focus doesn’t change when the timer starts. Trigger the self-timer and move into position.
A ground mark helps you return to the exact focus distance. This is the simplest approach for self-portraits when the camera can’t refocus on you after you leave the shutter button.
Based on the answer provided, the key is pre-focusing and locking focus manually. A remote may be convenient, but it isn’t required for this method.
