How can I share a very high-resolution panorama online so viewers can zoom into the detail?

I stitched about 20 images into a very high-resolution panorama and want to publish it online so people can pan and zoom around the image. Gigapan used to offer this, but it is no longer available. I'm open to self-hosting if needed, but I would need a viewer/player that can be embedded on a website without relying on WordPress. What platforms or tools can handle this kind of large panorama well?

Pannellum can do exactly this, especially since you mention you are willing to self-host. The project is well-documented with sample code snippets and reference materials for each feature.
It also has a multi-resolution feature for very large images, to make viewing them more practical.

Yes—if you’re willing to self-host, Pannellum is a good fit for this. It’s a panorama viewer that can be embedded in a website and is well documented, with sample code and configuration options.
For very large stitched files, its multi-resolution support is especially useful. That lets the viewer load smaller tiles/levels as needed, so visitors can smoothly pan and zoom into detail without having to download the full-resolution image at once.
So the practical approach is:
- Prepare your panorama for multi-resolution viewing.
- Host the image tiles and the Pannellum viewer on your site.
- Embed the viewer in your page.
That should give you the Gigapan-style interactive experience you’re after, without needing WordPress.
