How can I replace RAW files with JPEGs in Aperture 3 to save disk space?

I shoot only RAW in Aperture 3, then edit the files and usually don’t need to keep the original RAWs afterward. The RAW files take much more space than JPEGs. Is there an easy way to convert edited RAW images to high-quality JPEGs and remove the original RAWs while keeping my library manageable? I considered exporting JPEGs, deleting the RAWs, and re-importing the JPEGs, but I’m looking for a better workflow inside or alongside Aperture 3.

There is a program made for this called RawHide for Aperture. I have used it myself to convert albums full of low-importance pictures from RAW to JPEG. You can have it delete the originals automatically and replace them with JPEGs, or keep both; you can tag pictures you've operated on; and there are quite a few more options.

A practical solution mentioned by users is RawHide for Aperture. It’s designed specifically for this workflow: converting images in an Aperture library from RAW to JPEG and then replacing the originals.
According to the community answer, RawHide can:
- convert albums of less-important RAW images to JPEG
- automatically delete the original RAW files and replace them with JPEGs, or keep both
- tag the images you’ve processed
That makes it much simpler than manually exporting JPEGs, deleting RAWs, and re-importing. If your goal is just to reduce storage after editing, a tool like this is the most direct approach based on the answers provided.
