How can I prevent clothing marks before a nude or boudoir photo shoot?

Clothing marks from tight garments or elastic can be distracting in nude or boudoir photography and take time to retouch. What are the best ways to minimize or prevent these marks before the session? Is it enough to have the model change early and wear a robe, or is it better to plan wardrobe and preparation in advance?

I believe the best way is to allow the model to wear a dressing gown for 15 minutes or so before the shoot. Also ask them in advance to wear loose clothing on the day, to minimise marks as much as possible.

The best solution is prevention. Ask the model in advance to avoid tight clothing, elastic waistbands, socks, bras, or anything restrictive on the day of the shoot. Loose, easy-to-remove clothing such as a slip-on dress, robe, or slippers is a better choice.

Having the model change 15 minutes early and wear a dressing gown may help, but it often isn’t enough if marks are already set. Planning ahead is more effective than relying on post-processing.

Skin elasticity also affects how long marks last. Staying hydrated may help, and people with more elastic skin tend to show fewer persistent marks.

You can try gentle pressure or massage on the affected areas, but it usually works slowly and may cause redness, so it’s not a quick fix.

In short: advise loose clothing well before the session, use a robe or similar loose cover before shooting, and treat retouching as a last resort rather than the main solution.
