I’m photographing jewelry and would like to use silk as a background with a soft, loosely draped look. My problem is that the fabric keeps shifting and bending in unwanted directions instead of holding the shape I want. Is there a good way to make the silk hold its folds better while still looking natural in the photo?

Starch... or strategically placed folds under the heaviest part of the jewel, as in the pic above.
