How can I keep loose photo-book pages flat on a flatbed scanner?

I’m scanning pages from an unbound photo book on an Epson Perfection V600. Some pages don’t lie completely flat on the scanner glass, and that makes it hard to align and stitch scans together in Photoshop. Small cards placed on top weren’t large enough to hold the whole page down. What’s a good way to keep the page flat while scanning on a flatbed?

I would suggest a book or two that are bigger than the sheet of paper. You won't be able to close the lid, but that shouldn't be an issue - the scanner will still scan. Obviously the glass is fragile to a point - you don't want to put 50 lb of stuff on it - but it should be plenty strong to handle a book or two. The important bit is making sure that at least the first book is larger than the sheet of paper, so it holds down the entire sheet.

Use something that presses down the entire sheet, not just part of it. A simple approach is to place a larger flat object, such as a book bigger than the page, on top so the whole page is held against the glass. You may not be able to fully close the lid, but the scanner can still work that way. Just use moderate weight so you don’t risk damaging the scanner glass.

Another option is to scan with a single loose sheet and lower the lid fully so the lid provides even pressure across the page.

The key is even pressure over the full page area; small objects can leave parts of the sheet raised, which makes stitched scans harder to align.
