On my Nikon D7000, after I take a photo and review it through the viewfinder, red focus points are displayed over the image. I’d like to turn off that focus point overlay during playback/review. Is there a menu setting for this?

Yes. On the D7000, you can disable the focus point overlay in playback display settings. In the camera’s Playback/Display mode options, deselect the focus point item (sometimes labeled “focus point” or similar). Once that is turned off, the red AF points will no longer appear during image review. The D7000 manual covers this setting in the playback/display section.
