How can I fix a loose mode dial or lens switch that changes settings accidentally?

My Canon 5D Mark II's mode dial feels much looser than it should and can change position when I take the camera out of my bag. I’ve also had autofocus/IS switches on some lenses move too easily. Is there any user fix, product, or technique to tighten these controls, or does this need service?

I believe these are not user-servicable parts, so I would suggest to locate the nearest Canon service center and have them look at it.
