I'm looking at the Nikon D3100 for video use. It has a built-in mono microphone on the front, but does the camera include an audio input so I can connect an external microphone for better sound quality?

If I read the specifications correctly and the preview from DP Review, it would appear that it only has the built in mono microphone.

No. Based on the published specifications and early reviews, the Nikon D3100 appears to offer only its built-in mono microphone and does not provide an external microphone input. If better audio is important, you would need to record sound separately or consider a camera body that includes a mic input.
