Do you need a screen protector on a camera with a flip-out LCD like the Canon 60D?

I’m wondering whether a separate screen protector is necessary on a camera with a flip-out/reversible LCD, such as the Canon 60D. Since the screen can be turned inward when packed, it already has some protection in a bag. Do these cameras usually still benefit from an added protector, and will one interfere with flipping the screen closed against the body?

Given that the actual screen on Canon cameras is already mounted behind a rather solid transparent plastic plate from the factory, third-party screen protectors are not actually screen protectors.
They are screen protector protectors.

Usually, an added protector is optional rather than essential on a camera like the Canon 60D. The LCD is already behind a solid clear outer layer, and a reversible screen can be turned inward for extra protection during transport.
That said, some photographers still like a protector because it helps keep oils, smudges, and minor scratches off the outer surface during normal use. In that sense, it protects the camera’s existing protective cover rather than the LCD itself.
Whether you “need” one depends on how rough your use is and how much you care about keeping the screen pristine. If the camera already includes a protective outer cover or the LCD surface is durable enough for your needs, many people skip it. If not, or if you want extra peace of mind, a thin adhesive protector can make sense.
A properly sized protector should not stop the screen from flipping inward, as long as it is not unusually thick and is made for that size screen. If a model-specific protector is unavailable, some users cut a larger phone-style protector to fit.
