Do these orange streaks and circles on my Olympus Mju 1 scans look like a light leak?

I recently got an Olympus Mju 1 and shot a test roll. The scans show orange lines along the side and some circular spots. I'm new to film photography and trying to figure out whether this is likely a light leak that needs new seals, or possibly user/lab error. What should I check, and does this pattern sound like a light leak?

Imho, yes it is a light leak. But it is a bit weird because the sphere is very focused.

But the pattern is somehow repeated. Is this the same leak?

So it is a bit confusing where it is coming from. We could make a better guess seeing the negatives. If the pattern is from consecutive photos or it is across different ones and how it fades across the roll.

I posted some very general examples of different sources of light leaks here: These SLR developed photos are bad. Is it mine or the photolab's fault?

So the pattern across the roll is important to determine the source.

Yes, it likely is a light leak, though the circular shape is a bit unusual. The most useful next step is to inspect the negatives and compare where the marks appear across the roll. If the same pattern repeats on consecutive frames or changes gradually as the roll progresses, that can help identify where the leak is coming from.

Things to check:

  • Look at the negatives, not just the scans.
  • See whether the streaks/circles appear in the same area on multiple frames.
  • Note whether the effect fades or gets stronger across the roll.
  • Compare frames shot at different times to see if it’s consistent.

That pattern information helps narrow down whether the problem is from the camera seals, back door, film handling, or possibly processing/scanning. Based on your description, a light leak is a reasonable suspicion, but the exact source isn’t clear from the scans alone.
