Can you use a standard SATA SSD in a camera that takes CFast cards?

Since CFast is based on the SATA interface, could a normal SATA SSD work in place of a CFast card if you used a suitable adapter? Assume the mechanical issues are handled, such as the card door, cabling, and mounting. The main concerns are whether the camera can power the SSD and whether the camera firmware would accept it.

I wonder if the camera would be able to supply enough power to run the SSD. From what I've gathered, CFast cards are pretty low power. This one uses only 1.1 watts max.
Whereas the list below shows SSDs using up to over 7 watts, with most being in the ~3 watt range.
Assuming the camera doesn't have any limitations in the firmware, and assuming it could supply enough power, I don't see why it wouldn't work.

CFast uses a SATA-based interface, so at a basic signaling level a SATA SSD could be compatible. If the camera firmware does not impose restrictions and the adapter presents the drive correctly, it may work.
The biggest practical issue is power. CFast cards are designed for low power draw, while many standard SATA SSDs use much more power. One community answer notes a CFast card around 1.1W max, while many SSDs are closer to roughly 3W and some exceed 7W. A camera designed to power a CFast card may not be able to supply enough power for a normal SSD.
So the short answer is: yes in principle, but only if both of these are true:
- the camera firmware accepts the device, and
- the camera can supply enough power for the SSD.
Even with mechanical issues solved, power and firmware compatibility remain the main reasons it may fail.
