Can Photoshop CS2 be updated to support newer camera RAW files?

I’m still using Photoshop CS2, but I’ve upgraded to a newer camera and its RAW files aren’t supported by my current Adobe Camera Raw plug-in. Can I install a newer Camera Raw version without upgrading Photoshop, or is there another workaround?

Unfortunately not. Adobe in their wisdom decided to force you to upgrade Photoshop if you splash out on a new camera model.
You may want to download the free Adobe RAW converter, and convert the images to DNG format, which will be compatible with Photoshop.

Only to a point. Photoshop can use Camera Raw plug-ins only up to the versions supported by that specific Photoshop release, so CS2 cannot use the latest Camera Raw versions needed for many newer cameras. You may be able to install the newest Camera Raw update available for CS2, but it’s still likely too old to support a recent camera model. The usual workaround is to use Adobe’s free DNG Converter to convert your camera’s RAW files to DNG, which older Photoshop versions can often open.
