Yes—Lightroom needs its own update. Updating the DNG Converter does not update Lightroom.

In simple terms:

• DNG Converter is a separate standalone tool that converts RAW files to DNG.
• Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) is the RAW-processing component used with Photoshop.
• Lightroom has its own RAW engine/update path, so new camera support must come through a Lightroom update.

So if Lightroom doesn’t support a new camera yet, installing a newer DNG Converter or ACR beta will not automatically add that support to Lightroom. You either:
