Can Lightroom watermark exports with the image filename and virtual copy name?

I want to export several subtle variations of the same photo from Lightroom for print testing, and I need each exported file to be labeled so I can tell the versions apart later. Ideally, the watermark text would automatically include the image filename plus the virtual copy name for each version.

Lightroom’s built-in watermarking doesn’t seem to let me generate text dynamically from that metadata. Is there a way to do this in Lightroom, or do I need another tool?

You need a 3rd party plug-in like LR Mogrify 2. Despite the text on its homepage, it is compatible with current versions of Lightroom.

Lightroom’s built-in watermark tool does not provide the kind of dynamic text you want for filename + virtual copy name. Based on the community answer, the practical solution is to use a third-party plug-in such as LR/Mogrify 2, which can add text overlays during export and is reported to work with current Lightroom versions.

So, if you need each exported test print to show identifying text automatically, a plug-in is the best route rather than Lightroom’s native watermark feature.
