If I add IPTC metadata to images I deliver to clients, and that metadata remains intact, can it be found later through Google or another web search engine? If so, what services or methods can search image metadata online?

I looked for image metadata search engine on the web for a long time. Google and Flickr have some limited capability (Flickr restricted to its domains). There are other tools which have been discontinued. Your best bet looking at the future is CameraForensics, from the creators of StolenCameraFinder.

In general, not reliably through standard web search. Major search engines like Google do not offer broad, dependable searching of IPTC metadata embedded in images across the web. Some platforms have limited metadata-related search within their own ecosystems, but that does not extend to the wider internet. Historically, dedicated image metadata search tools have existed, but many have been discontinued. Based on the answers provided, a specialist service such as CameraForensics may be the closest option to explore, rather than relying on Google image search.
