When shooting at night, the information shown in the Nikon D800’s optical viewfinder is distracting. I couldn’t find a menu option to disable it. Is there any way to turn off the viewfinder display information?

You cannot turn off this information from being displayed in the d800's viewfinder. I don't think any Nikon offers this choice.

No. On the Nikon D800, the optical viewfinder information display cannot be turned off through the menu or a camera setting. This appears to be normal behavior for the D800, and Nikon DSLRs generally do not offer an option to disable those viewfinder readouts. If the display is distracting during night shooting, you may need to work around it by relying more on Live View, an external monitor, or by giving your eyes a moment to readjust after composing.
