I want to take silhouette photos with my Nikon Coolpix S70. Is it possible with this camera, and what settings or technique should I use? When I’ve tried, the images come out blurry.

You should be able to, but the controls (or lack thereof) on the s70 will make it a little difficult.
The key to getting a good silhouette is to put your subject in front of a bright background, then expose for the background.
The easiest way with your camera might be to set up your shot without the subject, half press the shutter, and then have your subject come to the right spot, and take the picture.
Also, remember not to use flash.

Yes — you should be able to make silhouettes with the Coolpix S70, though the limited controls make it a bit harder.
To create a silhouette, place your subject in front of a bright background and expose for the background, not the subject. A simple method is to frame the bright background first, half-press the shutter to lock focus/exposure, then have your subject step into position and take the shot. Make sure flash is off.
The blur is likely from a shutter speed that’s too slow. Since your camera may not give much direct shutter control, try these steps:
- shoot a non-moving or slow-moving subject
- use a tripod or rest the camera on something steady
- expose for the bright background, which may help shorten the exposure
- if available, raise ISO in Auto mode to get a faster shutter speed, understanding this can add noise
Fast action silhouettes may be difficult with this camera, but still subjects, trees, fences, or posed people should be achievable.
