I have an Olympus point-and-shoot film camera with a roll currently inside. Is it safe to remove and replace the battery while film is loaded, or could that expose or ruin the film?

The camera battery compartment is separate from the light-tight area of the camera. This being the case, you can remove dead batteries and replace without harming the film. You are advised to check the camera’s manual. When the battery dies or is near death, likely the camera stops functioning. Under these circumstances you will have little choice; you must charge or replace the battery.
Often, replacing or charging a complete dead battery resets the cameras logic. The film counter may revert to zero; the time and date may be lost. Again check with your camera manual.

Yes—on most Olympus point-and-shoot film cameras, the battery compartment is separate from the light-tight film chamber, so replacing the battery should not expose or damage the film.
A few things to keep in mind:
- If the battery is dead, the camera may stop functioning until it’s replaced.
- After a battery change, some cameras may reset their electronics.
- The frame counter may return to zero, and date/time settings may be lost.
The main caution is to avoid opening the camera back, not the battery door. If you want to be certain for your exact model, check the camera manual, since behavior after battery replacement can vary.
